From the ‘finest string quartet in the world’ (The Spectator) comes the Takács Quartet's 21st album on Hyperion: Mozart String Quintets K515 & 516.
Recorded across concerts at London’s famed Wigmore Hall in 2025, the Quartet is joined by internationally celebrated violist Timothy Ridout, whose participation brings a fresh dimension to the inner voices of these two masterpieces.
While this is Ridout's recording debut with the Takács, appearing for the final time in a 51-year career with the Takács is founder member and outgoing cellist András Fejér.
Written by Mozart in 1787, these two well-known quintets occupy a singular place in the chamber repertoire, balancing the lightness of the gallant style with a profound, often searching emotional depth.
